We went on this tour on September 30, 2022 with tour guide Massimoliano Vanza as our guide. He took us on a market tour in Civitavecchia where he purchased items that we were to prepare. Our next stop was RC La Nona Restaurant and Catering. We were met by Juliana, the owner and chef of the restaurant. We then donned our chef’s aprons and sat down for some pastry and proceco. We were then led into the kitchen where we began to prepare our meal. During our time there we prepared veal saltimbocca, gnocchi, and tiramisu. Juliana was wonderful throughout the entire event. Her friendly attitude and playful joking about how we were working on the ingredients was delightful. Massimaliano was great explaining each step and translating Italian to English and back. The whole experience was wonderful and I would highly recommend this for a very enjoy tour.

We experienced this exceptional culinary excursion as a group of 2 couples. Every minute of the 5 hours we spent with our guide, Massimiliano, and our Chef, Julianna, was filled with wonderful conversation, learning, laughter, delicious tasting food, and, in a single word, FUN!
From the walk through the market viewing and buying the diversity of ingredients for the meal, to learning cooking techniques in the RC La Nona restaurant kitchen, to sitting down to toast our accomplishments, was pure enjoyment.
We highly recommend it!

Delightful cruise excursion option
While our cruise ship was in Civitavecchia for the day we decided to try this cooking class. Roberta met us at the port bus stop and provided an interesting walking tour of the historic sites just outside the port. We then accompanied her to the local city market to pick up items for our lunch. We went to Patrizia’s restaurant where we were given aprons, introduced to Patrizia, and started helping her make our lunch. Roberta stayed to translate. Everyone was so nice and it was a lot of fun. We enjoyed our lunch of fresh made bread, 3 kinds of pasta, veal scalippini, apple cake and wine. It was delicious!

I cannot express how much my husband and I appreciated this experience. Olga, who picked us up and took us to the market was friendly and engaging. Our chef, Matteo, was more than willing to accommodate my vegetarianism (and even provided vegan options if needed) and was able to alter the menu on the fly. He was patient and attentive, kind and social. Since it was just the two of us, it was like having our own private tutor. It was wonderful to learn about Italian life from people who live there. I highly recommend that others experience this themselves.

Did this event today with our guide, Olga. She did an amazing job navigating us through the market and the streets of Civitavecchia while providing insight and historical facts
We did our class at Dolce & Salato a great little restaurant in the old part of the city. The Chef and staff were so friendly and relaxed. The food we prepared was delicious and truly an Italian experience
Looking forward to doing this again.

Today 10/21/2024 we took this class. Starting out shopping w/Olga (who has a great personality), then onto the restaurant to help make bread, gnocchi, and watch the chef make veal saltimbocca & brucchetta…we then sat to eat…we were served a delicious antipasto, the pasta, then the veal all accompanied by wine & then topped off by a great dessert….Patricia (the chef) was great along w/her fantastic wait staff!! We would recommend this to anyone!

**An Unforgettable Culinary Journey with Natalina**

Our market tour and cooking class with Natalina from Incitur was absolutely magical! With just four of us in our intimate group, we received incredibly personalized attention throughout the entire experience.

Natalina began by sharing fascinating stories about Civitavecchia’s rich history, setting the perfect cultural backdrop for our adventure. The local market visit was a feast for the senses – we learned about selecting the freshest ingredients while Natalina shared insider tips about Italian cooking traditions.

The highlight was definitely the hands-on cooking session. The restaurant chef graciously opened his kitchen to us, patiently teaching us the art of making perfect gnocchi from scratch and the secrets behind an authentic tiramisu.

Dining on our homemade creations in the restaurant’s beautiful setting was the perfect finale. The intimate atmosphere, combined with the pride of eating food we’d prepared ourselves, made this an experience we’ll treasure forever.

Natalina’s passion for her craft and genuine care for her guests shone through every moment. This tour perfectly blends culture, education, and pure enjoyment. Highly recommended for anyone wanting an authentic taste of Italian life!

**5 stars – A truly exceptional experience!**

The market shopping and cooking experience excursion in Civitavecchia that we took on 9/18/2025 was one of our favorites of our 16 days we spent vacationing in Europe. Natalia (our guide that picked us up a the cruise port) was knowledgeable about the city and even gave us a ‘free tour’ including thorough explanations of the buildings that we passed and history of the city when on our way to the market and restaurant. She really involved us in the food shopping at the market. She was very professional and fluent in English. Mateo was our chef at the restaurant – he was very patient and good an explaining the steps involved in cooking the meal and encouraged us all to participate in its preparation. The meal turned out great! The only room for improvement I would recommend would be to have more wine flowing – we each only had ~1/2 glass in our group of 7 people.
